Benjamin’s Comber confirmed as new British record
The British Record (rod-caught) Fish Committee (BRFC) would like to announce the ratification of a new British record fish.
The BRFC has received a claim made by Benjamin Hodgson in respect of his capture of a Comber (Serranus cabrilla), claimed at a length of 25cm. Following examination of Benjamin’s claim, supported by video evidence of the measurement of the fish, the committee has ratified the new record of 25cm.
Benjamin was fishing from his own boat around the Eddystone reef when he made his record catch, on 27th April 2026.
The BRFC would like to remind anglers that the record listing for boat-caught sea fish is now length-based and all new claims for boat-caught record sea fish must be made on a length basis and supported by video evidence of the measuring of the fish.
