This qualification is recognised by Sport England, Insurance companies and Local Authorities as being the industry standard for the delivery of introductory, coached and guided fishing sessions in England. Secondly, the course provides you with appropriate training on not how to catch fish, but how to pass your knowledge onto others in a safe, secure and structured manner. It also gives you access to our NGB development programs such as the CAST Awards, Get Fishing Awards and Reel Education. You will also be able to use our dedicated Event Marketplace to help manage and promote your fishing sessions.

Used by Angling Clubs, coaching organisations and fisheries to underpin their activity delivery, the Angling Trusts Event Lead Coach qualification and annual license trains coaches to have a good understanding of their roles and responsibilities, can safely manage an run events and provide fun, engaging and informative sessions in both sea, coarse and game fishing. Licensed coaches also have the benefit of a comprehensive coach insurance package and also access to our dedicated Angling Trust Safeguarding Officer.
WHAT IS THE COACH LICENSE?
Our Coach License is an annual license to practice which results in coaches being listed on our website as fully training and compliant. This gives confidence to the public and organisations employing the services of a coach. Licensed coaches are fully endorsed by the Angling Trust, which is the National Governing Body for Angling in England.
In order to become a licensed you must have –
- Completed L2 Angling Event Lead Training
- Enhanced DBS
- Safeguarding Training
- First Aid
- Paid an annual subscription of £45
- Agreed to the Angling Trust Code of Conduct and Coaching Minimum Operating Standards
Once licensed, coaches will be covered by our Angling Trust insurance policy and can start delivering our NGB development programs and advertising their services to the public on the Event Marketplace.
WHAT PROGRAMS CAN YOU DELIVER AS A LICENSED COACH?
Once licensed you can either deliver your own angling program or adopt on of the Angling Trust projects and use that to enhance your coaching. Our coaching programs are flexible and can suit many styles of angling including Sea, Game and Coarse. Please use the carasuel below to find the perfect program to aid your delivery.

If you are not ready to become a full Angling Coach, then the Event Support Volunteer is the perfect ‘first-step’ into angling coaching. The courses covers the expectations of those volunteering to assist licensed coaches in their delivery and gives a basic introduction to safeguarding, risk assessing and the roles and responsibilties of an event support volunteer. The course also includes a free volunteer DBS, resulting in trained, knowledgable volunteers ready to assist coaches in their delivery. L2 Angling Event Lead Coach
- This is the nationally recognised standard for Angling Introductions, Coaching and Guiding in England. The course is for experienced anglers and those with a natural ability to pass on knowledge either in a group, or 1-1 environment. The course takes place over one full weekend, with a further assessment day. Participants will learn how to run fun, engaging, safe and structured sessions and leave confident that they can deliver appropriate sessions for their clients to enjoy. Once qualified and licenced, Coaches can advertise their sessions on the Angling Trust Event Marketplace and make use of all the dedicated tools designed to assist coaches in their delivery.
- In addition to completing the training days, you also need to have completed First Aid training and have had an enhanced DBS completed by the Angling Trust.

WHAT IS THE EVENT MARKETPLACE?
The Angling trust has built a dedicated booking and event management system specifically designed to assist coaches, or organisations using licensed coaches, to manage their delivery. The Marketplace uses swimbookers advanced technology to allow coaches to advertise their services, take bookings, manage participants and track their delivery. COACHING STANDARDS
The Angling Trust, as the National Governing Body for the sport of angling in England, outlines the following minimum operating standards for all participation events that focus on introducing new people to the sport, coaching, or providing tuition. Any participation event which we organise or any event which we endorse, being delivered by a thirdparty, must follow these standards:

These standards have been produced after consultation with insurance providers and Sport England to make sure angling tuition and coaching is provided safely, appropriately and in line with current safeguarding practices by licensed DBS checked angling coaches.
