Angling Coach Qualification and Licensing
The Angling Coach Qualification is for individuals aged 18 and over who want to plan and deliver structured coaching sessions and help people learn and develop within the sport.
Licensed Angling Trust Coaches introduce people to fishing, develop angling skills and deliver safe, enjoyable and well-structured sessions. They support Get Fishing events, club sessions and wider participation programmes.
The qualification is a core requirement for becoming a Licensed Angling Trust Coach.
How do I become a Licensed Coach?
To begin, register for the Licensed Angling Coach role through your dashboard. Your status will initially show as Action Required while you complete the qualification and remaining licence requirements.
Once you have registered and paid, you will automatically receive access to the Angling Coach Qualification through the Angling Trust Training Portal. You will also receive an email explaining how to access and complete your training.

The learning pathway includes:
- Introduction to Safeguarding Parts 1 and 2 – (online modules)
- Safe Delivery Essentials Parts 1 and 2 – (online modules)
- Angling Coach: Online Learning Parts 1, 2 and 3 – (online modules)
- Angling Coach: Meet the Coaching Team – (bookable live virtual tutor-led session delivered online by the Head of Coaching)
- Angling Coach: Assessment Day – (bookable face-to-face session at a designated assessment venue)
Each stage unlocks the next. The live online session and Assessment Day can be booked through the Training Portal once the previous stages are complete.
After successfully completing the programme, you will receive an Angling Coach Qualification certificate. Once all licence requirements have been completed and approved, your status will change to Current and you will become a fully Licensed Angling Trust Coach.
Cost
Registration for the Licensed Angling Coach pathway costs £260. This includes:
- The Angling Coach Qualification
- A DBS check for a voluntary coaching role
- The first year of your Coach Licence
You must also hold an individual Angling Trust membership, costing £33 per year when paid by auto-renewal. This brings the initial cost to £293.
You will also need an accepted first aid certificate. If you do not already hold one, suitable training is available from approximately £16, bringing the expected overall cost to around £309.
After your first year, the Coach Licence costs £20 per year, alongside your annual individual membership.
You will have access to the qualification for 365 days from the date you receive your enrolment email.
Are you eligible for a discount?
- Event Support Volunteers – A £50 discount will be applied automatically at checkout when registering through your dashboard. If the discount does not appear, please email coaching@anglingtrust.net.
- Level 1 Assistant Angling Coaches – If you are, or have previously been, a Level 1 Assistant Angling Coach, you can upgrade to become a fully Licensed Angling Trust Coach for £100. Your discount will be applied automatically at checkout. If it does not appear, please email coaching@anglingtrust.net.
- EA Coach Bursary – If you have been awarded an EA Coach Bursary, please contact your Development Officer before registering to obtain your bursary code.
