Event Support Volunteer
This role is for individuals aged 16 and over who want to support Angling Trust Licensed Coaches to deliver participation sessions and introduce more people to fishing through Get Fishing events, CAST sessions and other structured coaching events.
Event Support Volunteers help licensed coaches deliver safe, welcoming and well-organised sessions. They may help set up equipment, support participants, manage fishing areas and assist coaches with their session plans and objectives, helping to create a positive first experience of angling.
How do I become an Event Support Volunteer?
To begin, you must register as an Event Support Volunteer and pay the £50 fee. Once you have completed the registration and payment process, you will automatically receive access to the Event Support Volunteer course through the Angling Trust Training Portal. You will receive an email explaining how to access and complete your training, along with separate guidance on completing your DBS check in the Angling Trust Dashboard.
Your Event Support Volunteer status will initially show as Action Required while you complete the training and DBS requirements.
You will complete four online modules, with each module unlocking the next:
- Introduction to Safeguarding Parts 1 and 2
- Safe Delivery Essentials Parts 1 and 2
These modules provide core safeguarding knowledge used across many Angling Trust roles. They are also the first steps of the Angling Coach pathway, so you will not need to repeat them if you later progress into coaching.
After completing the training, you will receive an Event Support Volunteer certificate. Once all requirements have been completed and approved, your status will change to Current.
Total cost: £50
The total cost of becoming an Event Support Volunteer is £50. This includes access to the required online training and the cost of your DBS check (you will need to re-complete your DBS every 3 years to stay up to date)
If you later progress to the Angling Coach pathway, the full £50 will be deducted from the cost of the Angling Coach Qualification. Please see the Angling Coach Qualification and Licensing page for further details.
You will have access to the course for 365 days from the date you receive your enrolment email.
