Safe Clubs and Fisheries (Welfare Officer)
The Safe Clubs and Fisheries training is for individuals appointed as Welfare Officers within angling clubs, fisheries or federations.
The Welfare Officer role helps organisations provide a safe, welcoming and well-managed environment for children, young people and adults. Welfare Officers act as the main point of contact for safeguarding concerns and support their organisation in understanding and following good safeguarding practice.
How do I become a Welfare Officer?
You must first be registered as a Welfare Officer. Your status will initially show as Action Required while you complete the training and any other requirements.
Once registered, you will automatically receive access to the required training through the Angling Trust Training Portal. You will also receive an email explaining how to access and complete it.
The learning pathway includes:
- Introduction to Safeguarding Parts 1 and 2 – (online modules)
- Safe Clubs & Fisheries – a bookable live online session delivered by the Angling Trust Designated Safeguarding Lead
Each stage unlocks the next. The live session can be booked through the Training Portal once the online modules have been completed.
During the live session, you will learn more about the Welfare Officer role, safeguarding responsibilities within clubs and fisheries, and the remaining requirements, including DBS checks where applicable.
After completing the training, you will receive a certificate confirming completion of the Safe Clubs & Fisheries training. Once all requirements have been completed and approved, your Welfare Officer status will change to Current.
Cost
The training is free. If a DBS check is required, this costs £16.70, and you will receive separate guidance on completing it.
