World Fishing day and Angling Trust join forces to help more people get fishing!

The Angling Trust’s “Get Fishing” campaign has joined up with World Fishing Day to help more clubs, fisheries and coaches become part of this celebration of angling on Saturday June 23rd 2018.

World Fishing Day is the first ever attempt to bring anglers all over the world together to celebrate the joys of angling, bring new people into the sport and highlight the incredible power of angling to make positive changes in the world and in people’s lives. The Angling Trust‘s ‘Get Fishing’ campaign is a huge initiative funded by the Environment Agency to boost angling participation in the coming year. The campaign has now partnered with World Fishing Day to help encourage more people to go fishing more often.

World Fishing Day will feature a 24-hour live fishing broadcast and a network of community fishing events. With its live camera team that will visit selected angling events around the country, World Fishing Day will help dispel the myth that fishing isn’t exciting, as anglers pit their skills against some of the hardest fighting fish in the most incredible locations on the planet!

The Angling Trust are encouraging fishing clubs, fisheries and coaches to join in the excitement and raise awareness of the sport among the non-angling community by planning their own events on the day. Event organisers will be encouraged to share photos and videos with the World Fishing Day and Angling Trust social media teams throughout the 24hr event running on Saturday June 23rd. See list below of how we will help get your World Fishing Day event up and running…

Clive Copeland, Head of Participation at the Angling Trust said:World Fishing Day’s widespread promotion of fishing as a healthy outdoors activity for people of all ages, abilities, races, genders and backgrounds is exactly what angling needs right now. It will no doubt encourage more people to come fishing at the free events we run at ‘Get fishing Near You‘. In the last year we’ve seen a huge interest in fishing. Public figures and celebrities like David Beckham, Anthony Joshua, John Terry and Rita Ora have all expressed their enjoyment of angling and fishing now appears in weekly TV shows. World Fishing Day has the potential to take this to the next level by putting the excitement of angling in front of a new audience who have yet to discover the wonders of angling and encourage more people to go fishing more often.

World Fishing Day’s live broadcast will feature some of the best-known names and faces from the world of angling including Keith Arthur, Marina Gibson, Rob Hughes and Babs Kijewski, as well as celebrities who fish, such as Matthew Wright, who’ll be hosting a section of the show from the London studio.

CLUBS and FISHERIES
How to get free help and advice to run and promote your World Fishing Day event:

The day will feature a 24 hour live fishing broadcast and (…here’s where you come in!) a network of community fishing events. There will be a live camera team headed up by Andy Ford (BT Sport) who’ll visit selected events around the country. The fast-paced live-broadcast will dispel the myth that fishing isn’t exciting as anglers pit their skills against some of the hardest fighting fish in the most incredible locations on the planet. Participating clubs, fisheries and coaches like you will be encouraged to share photos and videos of your own events with the World Fishing Day team on the day.

By organising a World Fishing Day event of your own, your club or fishery will become part of World Fishing Day’s extensive promotion of fishing as a healthy activity for people of all ages, races, genders and backgrounds. We’ll help you get an Environment Agency fishing licence “waiver” for your World Fishing Day event so that attendees can fish for free, as well as providing you with help organising your event.

We’ll also make sure that your event becomes part of the publicity on World Fishing Day by listing it in the World Fishing Day section of Get Fishing and including it in Angling Trust and World Fishing Day’s social media and other publicity.

World Fishing Day is a brilliant opportunity to raise the profile of your club or fishery, encourage more newcomers into the club and get more people into fishing.
