Get Fishing News

Sussex fishing event is a hit with families

With the school holidays coming to a close, Hassocks and District Angling Association held a beginners Get Fishing event at the impressive, purpose built Badgers Wood Lake in Hickstead, Sussex. The event was a hit with the youngsters but it wasn’t just kids casting a line as adults enjoyed getting involved too. Tony Elkins of Hassocks Angling gave us a run down…

This was our second Get Fishing event in just over a month and although we arranged it at short notice we still had 33 people in attendance and most of them had never been fishing before.

Whilst it was good to see a number of under 12’s out casting a line, it was also really encouraging to see mums, dads and grandads all having a go.

Having family members in attendance as well as the kids always turns events like these into a real family affair and is a great way for families to spend time together.

It also means that the whole family get to understand the benefits of fishing and can learn a new skill, outdoors.

Everybody caught some fish on the day. These were mainly perch and roach with the odd tench too. The largest fish was about 2lb 8oz – just over 1Kg.

Yet another very successful Get Fishing event and we’re looking forward to welcoming our next group to the lake.

Thanks to the Angling Trust’s ‘Get Fishing’ Participation Team for helping fund the event with Environment Agency funding raised from fishing licence sales.
