Hundreds hooked on fishing in Corby

Over 400 young people from all over Northamptonshire have been well and truly hooked on fishing this summer after getting a brilliant introduction to the world of angling, from Corby Borough Council.

The Summer Holiday Get Fishing Sessions at Corby’s Boating Lake have given young people the chance to try fishing for the first time.

All equipment, bait and tackle were provided and a friendly group of volunteers were on hand to provide helpful advice about how to catch and safely return the lake’s carp, perch and roach.

Ivan Barkham, Neighbourhood Warden from Corby Borough Council said: “This summer has been a huge success! A massive thank you to volunteers Dan, Eddie and Len for helping out all summer – we couldn’t have done it without you”.

James Roche, Partnership Development Manager for the Angling Trust added: “Corby Borough Council have improved the fishing on the Boating Lake no end by using funding from the Angling Improvement Fund. The fishing platforms around the lake are now loads better and it was great to see so many new people using them to get into fishing.”

The introductory fishing sessions have been taking place at the Boating Lake for a number of years and have continued to grow year on year.
