Mat Woods and Korum say “Take a Friend Fishing this Christmas!”

Mat Woods, lure angling fan and Korum Brand Manager has given us a great bit of feedback on the plan to give existing fishing licence holders a FREE licence to take a friend or family member fishing this Christmas and New Year holiday.

The popular ‘Take a Friend Fishing’ initiative is here again this Christmas, backed by the Environment Agency to help support anglers who want to introduce a mate and registering for a free one-day fishing licence couldn’t be easier either… Simply visit www.takeafriendfishing.org.uk, select the date of your fishing trip, enter some basic info about you and your friend, and away you go!

Mat said:

I saw you were having another blast at Take a Friend Fishing – awesome!

“Another positive move that I hope sees more people giving fishing a try.

“Over the winter period I would urge anyone thinking of giving light lure fishing a go to get out there and make the most of our prolific canal network.

“Access is great and the fishing can be too.

“Local tackle shops will be able to help any anglers who want to get out fishing during Take a Friend Fishing

“Drop by and support your tackle shop – most are open where Government guidelines and the Covid-19 ‘Tier’ system allows them to be. If not, give them a call, hit them up on Facebook and they’ll be happy to point you to the best locations and give advice on the tackle needed.

Mat enjoys lure fishing himself and has spoken about how this kind of fishing is great for Take a Friend Fishing in the winter:

I indulge in a lot of predator fishing through the colder months – I honestly believe more anglers should lure fish as a means of keeping warm and catching plenty of predators whilst conditions aren’t so great for other species.

Applying at www.takeafriendfishing.org.uk is easy – the free fishing licence will be sent with a confirmation email, so please remember to have the angler’s fishing licence, both people’s email addresses and the date of the trip ready when you register.

The Take a Friend Fishing campaign is a partnership between the Angling Trades Association, the Environment Agency and the Angling Trust – it’s designed to give more people the chance to get into fishing.

Relaunched in 2020, over 4,000 people have already taken part in Take a Friend Fishing this year alone! A great sign that angling is as popular as ever, and still just as easy to get into, especially with a friend to show you how.

About Mat Woods:
Mat enjoys fishing for smaller carp on commercial fisheries, classing Method feeder fishing on the tip as his favourite style of fishing.

“I love any approach that involves catching lots of carp, or catching carp quickly. Using alternative techniques to tempt fish from even the most pressured venues gives me a real buzz. Whether it be large, old carp from low-stock venues, or double-figured specimens from commercial waters, I enjoy all styles of carping.”
